MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A Merrill man accused of arson of another family’s home is expected to avoid a jury trial and take a plea deal in July.
23-year-old David Ostrowski is accused of starting a fire that destroyed the house and endangered seven people. Only one person was burned that night back in October of 2015.
Ostrowski was charged with five felonies – arson, recklessly endangering safety, burglary, injury by negligent handling of a weapon and bail jumping – for the fire at the corner of First and Hope streets. He was arrested after an encounter with police near the crime scene where, according to police, he confessed to being a part of not only the house fire, but also two separate vehicle fires in the area.
Court records indicate Ostrowski’s plea and sentencing hearing on July 24th at 10:00 am.
