MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) - Marshfield High School will defend its championship at the National Ocean Sciences Bowl in April.

Marshfield won its ninth consecutive state crown over the weekend at U-W Milwaukee, beating out students from 22 other schools.

Scientists from the U-W-M Great Lakes Water Institute and the U-W Madison Sea Grant program grilled the youngsters on a host of ocean science questions involving the Great Lakes.

Caroline Joyce of U-W Milwaukee said the goal is to excite young people about their water-filled planet – connect them with up-to-date research – and encourage more people to pursue the ocean sciences.
