WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – You can learn more about an engineering-based charter school that will open in Wausau this fall during an informational meeting later this week.
The Wausau school district will host a meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Wausau East high school for parents and students interested in the Engineering and Global Leadership Academy. There is a second informational meeting February 16.
The school will be different than what most students find in a traditional high school, said career and technology education coordinator Bob Marlowe. That's because the curriculum is very project-based and students will be able to learn more about engineering and other science careers through partnerships with local businesses.
“That's an opportunity that not too many students while in secondary education,” Marlowe said.
The district wants to have an initial class of 60 students. If more students than that show an interest, the district must hold a lottery to determine who can be enrolled.
