WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) The Fillmore Nightclub in downtown Wausau was sold to a California bank at a sheriffs auction yesterday. First Citizens Bank purchased the property for 373-thousand dollars. It's not clear what the future plans are for the site.
The Fillmore had been the old Rodgers Theater. It sat empty for years before Dan and Bill Miller got loans from the city to renovate the building and turn it into a live music nightclub. But the Fillmore struggled financially since it opened, and had trouble repaying the city loans. The nightclub shut down, and the city foreclosed on the property last year.
With the bank sale, the city will lose about 175-thousand dollars in loans. The total loss, including unpaid contractors who did the renovation work, will be 300-thousand.
