MADISON (WSAU) Governor Doyle will not sign "Lacey's Pledge," promising not to drink and drive.

Friends of Lacey Meinel, killed by a drunk driver earlier this year, have asked her classmates and state lawmakers to sign the pledge.

The Governors office released a statement saying he supports the students’ efforts for tougher OWI laws. But -- quote -- 'the Governor does not drink and drive. With respect to the pledge, I believe democracy works best when elected officials are held accountable and responsible for their voters.'

The pledge was sent to state lawmakers last Wednesday. So far only one has signed.
